EDUCATION SYSTEM: OPPORTUNITY, CONFLICT
& DIVIDE (On-going) |
|||
|
|
|||
|
|
I Based on: Primary & Secondary Sources I I Period: September 2009 – On-going I Whereas Madrasa education is blamed as the
source of extremism, the general education system, other than some exception,
produces a mass - unproductive and unskilled. The capable middle class or
upper class, scared of falling out in
the global corporate era, promotes English Medium education, a system alien
to the roots of the land and people – contributing more to the divide. This research looks at the link between
opportunity divide and its cause as projected in the Education System,
leaving the society vulnerable to different aspects of intolerance, conflict
and unrest from present to an uncertain future. |

IN SEARCH OF MRU |
|||
|
|
|||
|
|
I Based on: Primary & Secondary Sources I I Period: February 2007- October 2008 I I Outcome: Used for a documentary film on the
Mru community I It was said that the more the civilization
approached, the more Mrus moved deeper into the woods. Rajwang, the chronicle of Arakanese Kings,
confirms that during the 12th century, two Mru men helped King Da Tha, the
Raja of Arakan (1153-1165) to locate the Mahamuni Statue. In the 14th
century, Mrus were driven out from Arakan by the Khumis, a powerful tribe of the
region at that time. Eventually, the Mru community settled in the Hill Tracts
of Bandarban, on the western valley of the Sangu (Shankha) river. Legend says that the ancient Mrus sent a cow
to Torai, the great spirit, to seek help when they realized that, other
tribes had written language and conventions for living. Torai after setting
the rules for the Mru wrote them on banana leaves and sent it with the cow.
Unfortunately, the cow ate all the leaves, leaving the Mru helpless. To
commemorate this event, Mru celebrates cow sacrificing festival. Solitary, free-spirited and peace-loving,
Mru people value their independence above everything, with the yearning to
pursue a traditional lifestyle free from domination or exploitation. |

I Based on: Mostly Secondary & Partly
Primary Sources I I Period: March - April 2006 I I Outcome: Used for website: http://www.barisiddiqui.net
I Pandit Pannalal Ghosh is
considered as the 'Giver of Flute' to Indian Classical Music, as he was the
first to transform a tiny folk instrument to a novel bamboo flute (32 inches
long with 7 holes for fingering) suitable for playing traditional Indian
classical music. He regarded the "Harmonium Wizard", Khurshid Ahmad
Khan, as his first guru, and was fortunate also to have had the blessings and
systematic training from the legendary Ustad Allauddin Khan. Khan Sahib is
the greatest icon of the North Indian Classical music from Beenkar gharana
(clan), and the successor of the brilliance of Mian Tan Sen from the court of
Moghul Emperor Akbar. |
